A Brief Look at Posters

Every so often, someone hits upon an idea that is so simple and so basic that it is odd that no one had thought of it earlier. Such is the case with the common posters that we all take heavily for granted. Previously, if one wanted a wall decoration, one would have to purchase an original painting to hang on the wall. The emergence of posters as a decoration changed all that.

Movie Images

Posters have been a popular decoration for many, many years. Who can forget the classic Farrah Fawcett poster that adorned an untold number of walls in the 1970s when it was, and still is, the best selling poster in the history of the industry? One has to wonder as well how many that adorned the image of Bruce Lee were sold.

With Bruce Lee, there was no one particular image that was reproduced, as was the case with Farrah Fawcett, but the number and variety of images that contained Bruce Lee’s image are far too many to count. Also, Lee’s sold well beyond the 1970s and into the present, although today the number has diminished due to the Lee estate enforcing a trademark on the previously public domain Lee countenance.

Famous Art

Movie images or related items are not the only area tapped to make up the poster market. Many times, famous and classic art of years past has been used for reproduction. It is not a bad deal, because instead of shelling out over a million dollars for the original, all one needs to spend is $15 for a reproduction. Plus it requires less care, so those on a budget can purchase great work from O’Keefe, Rembrandt, Picasso, and many others.

Yes, posters can be used as advertisements even when those purchasing the poster do not realize that they have purchased an advertisement. Cases in point include beer, cars, planes, and travel locations, all of which have been used as popular images for posters. The advertisement is forgivable, as many of the posters look very unique, original and upbeat.

There is a poster for everyone, so there will never be a limit to the various posters that will find their way into the marketplace. As long as those who make these wonderful posters do not run out of ideas, these products will be around forever.
