The Glory of a Good Dragon Poster

Is there anything as mystical and imaginative as a really good dragon poster? It’s the same size as other kinds of posters and does the same kind of job, but you never have to ask yourself if it’s a photo. Every dragon poster is a work of art, painted by some graphic artist with vision and talent, and very one tells a story.

Good or Evil

In Far Eastern mythology, the dragon is the good guy. It is strong and noble, bringing luck and protection wherever it goes. In the western tales, the dragon is a representation of evil. It must be slain to rescue the maiden and free the countryside of its evil influence. The slaying is never done easily, for it can only be accomplished by the pure of heart and one of noble birth astride a valiant steed, and often with the use of a magical sword or potion. Whether good or evil, every dragon is majestic and powerful, and makes for a good dragon poster.

Winged or Not

While there are certain parameters of a dragon’s appearance, the details are left to the imagination of the artist and the requirements of the legend. They may or may not be winged, fire-breathing and four-footed. That means that you can find a dragon poster with a beast to your liking. Most dragon poster beasts are strong and beautiful even when they are frightening. They come in all colors, examples of which are red, green, shades of blue, and combinations of several colors.

A dragon poster may show a treasure guarded by the dragon. Sometimes it’s a chest of gold, a magic crystal or a Chinese pearl. Often the scenery is stark and craggy as dragons are at home in high places along with artists’ imaginations. Although many dragons can fly, a dragon poster often depicts a rearing beast on the ground sometimes breathing fire, but always showing a frozen slice of action. Indeed, we never see a dragon relaxing at home with a good book.

Sometimes a dragon poster shows a scene that doesn’t come from a story. It might just be a dragon protecting his treasure or looking over his craggy landscape. More often, a dragon poster tells part of a story. Traditionally, he’s being slain by St. George, but the more modern dragon is a character from a video game, comic book series, a fantasy novel, movie, or trading cards. Those dragons may or may not have names and backgrounds but they all have fans. Whether a dragon poster pictures a storied or unknown dragon, one with or without wings, with four or two or no legs at all, you can be sure that the dragon poster is a sight to behold.
