All around the globe people are crazy about pizza and long to savor the thick crusted, stuffed and rolled pizzas with tomato sauce and zesty cheese. Pizzas and flatbreads have been in existence for centuries. They appeared in the late 18th century when street sellers sold pieces of garnished flatbread mainly for the poorer population. When tomatoes found acceptance in these flatbread creations, the pizza was born.

The more famous Margherita pizza from Naples owes its name to Queen Margherita, who became very enamored with these flatbread creations while on a trip through Italy and ordered a baker named Raphelle to bake pizzas for her. It has since become a central part of every Italian cooking recipe.
